Child Visiting the Dentist - Ruby Canyon Dental

We understand that many children feel scared or uneasy about dental visits, and that there is no “one size fits all” approach that works for their dental care. Finding a children’s dentist can be daunting because you want to find a place where both your child and you feel comfortable. This is why our highly-trained staff and board certified pediatric dentist take their time to get to know each child personally, building trusting relationships that keep your child feeling relaxed and safe. We also encourage parents to accompany their children into the treatment room to help ease nerves – their own or their child’s! We also offer nitrous oxide to help our younger patients feel calm and relaxed.

During our pediatric dental visits, we use kid-friendly vocabulary to explain each step of your child’s treatment. We also offer kid-friendly amenities to ensure your child’s visit to Ruby Canyon Dental is effective, educational, and fun!

  • Video Games, Toys, & Books
  • Cartoons above the Dental Chair

Dentistry for All Kids - Ruby Canyon Dental

Dentistry at Every Age

We welcome kids of all ages to our family-oriented Grand Junction, CO dental practice and understand that these are important developmental years for your child’s oral health. We want to make sure that you are well informed on what to expect in the months and years to come.

Children Under 3

We recommend scheduling your child’s first dental visit once your child’s first tooth erupts or around his or her first birthday. During the first few years, the most common concerns are thumbsucking and tooth eruption. Our children’s dentist will address all of these issues with exceptional kindness, patience, and understanding.

Children Ages 3–7

At this age, going to the dentist can actually be a fun and positive experience! By this time, your child may be familiar with our dentists, our friendly team, and our fun atmosphere. If this will be your child’s first time to see us, we promise to make him or her feel comfortable in our care!

We always take the time to explain treatments using language that kids understand, even letting them touch some of the instruments so that they don't fear being in the dental chair. Our goal is to gain your child’s confidence and overcome their apprehension.

Children Ages 8–11

Children at this age are delightful in the dental office! Any dental fear is usually gone and your child has developed a trusting relationship with our team. At this point, we really start to stress the importance of your child taking care of their oral hygiene by brushing and flossing. This is also the time that we start to look at any developing orthodontic problems.

Children Ages 12 and Up

At Ruby Canyon Dental, we’re not just kids’ dentists – we’re equipped and trained to treat patients of all ages. And our pediatric dentist has had special training in how to specifically treat the dental needs of children from infancy to college years. During these years, we evaluate and provide orthodontic treatment. All teens should have a complete dental exam and all decayed teeth should be filled prior to starting orthodontic treatment.

We look forward to being your family dentist!
